I am not, specificaly, familiar with Jacksonville, but I have been house shopping lately and I've been very unhappy with new construction. Not only with the home itself, but because new developements tend to be vinyl-sided ghettos with tiny lots, no privacy, and too cookie cutter in style. While you do tend to get a lot of sq footage for your money, if you need elbow room and want individuality, it's a huge tradeoff.
As a first time home buyer, you may find the new home market to be full of other like minded people who you will enjoy and make life long friends..it's a stage of life thing which we enjoyed in our twenties.
Now, after having experienced a new developement in our 20's, and a custom home with acreage in our 40's, we would be uncomfortable, I think, in a squeezed up, cookie cutter environment. Your gut will tell you what's right for you.

Hello everyone! Just updating.. We've decided to build a house in Two Creeks Subdivision in Middleburg. We really don't mind the commute that much...I just hope it's as bad as what other people have said. And there are a lot of other Navy families that have bought a house there also. The main factor is that the house itself is pretty nice, and since we're building, I get to customize the wall colors, flooring, etc. The builder itself is giving us a lot of incentive to buy one of their houses...best deal out of the other builders out there that we've checked out.. I really hope we made the right decision! I still welcome any input!
