Haha yea, every morning I hear the traffic report on planet radio "cars backing up on the buckman bridge, getting heavy on the townbound arlington expressway, and starting to get backed up at butler, 95, and philips hwy......"

Its impossible not to have traffic at the Buckman, considering its the only way across the river south of downtown.

I'm just glad I dont have to use that bridge on a daily basis

In the distant past, angry (and shortsighted) people blocked the construction of another bridge between Downtown and the Buckman. I think it was either an extension of JTB or University crossing the river to somewhere around the Navy base.

In the very recent past, more angry (and shortsighted) people blocked the approval of a bridge between the Buckman and the Shands. Instead, the Shands will only be widened, but there will be no alternate route constructed.

As Jax's suburbs fill out over the next few decades, it's really going to get crazy. Imagine if we get as big as Orlando or Tampa. Over a million people on each side of the river, with only 3 bridges for over 20 miles. That is NOT good planning.

Yes I agree. There needs to be another bridge somewhere between the buckman and downtown

The secret to the Buckman is to live on the right side. And the right side depends upon where you work. If you must take the bridge, live on the east and commute west each day. And visa versa.

I agree. But I'd rather be stuck for ten minutes on the Buckman, seeing the river and breathing the air, than sitting in traffic on I-295 between San Jose & St. Augustine.

To all the people complaining: Either move to Jacksonville or get a job in OP.

We don't really use "Bucky" that much. When we were here in December looking for an apartment, all of the apartments that we looked at were in the Southside/Baymeadows area. We wound up getting an apartment right off of Southside/Baymeadows. My wife works downtown right on the edge of the river right next to the 95. She takes the 95 to work everyday had pretty much has no traffic problems......gets there in 30 min or less. The only reason we would cross the bridge is if we do something on the West/North West side of Jax, which isn't too often.

With the current and likely future of the economy, I'd be suprised if we saw the building of bridges any time soon. Some sort of mass transit is probably going to be the direction. That's a good thing too - less cars on the road.

I'd also expect some of the future population predictions to change. People will still be relocating here, no doubt, but maybe they won't be filling out the suburbs. The growing trend of people moving back into city centers might accelerate in the coming years.

Me? I'll continue to avoid the Buckman .
