Yeah no kidding! Dont know many churchy folks that rob, cheat and steal. Personally, I dont mind the "God-fearin, what-church-do-you-go-to" folks at all! That's just good ol' southern hospitality!

I do find that people here assume that A) you're a churchgoer and B) you are a Creationist. That took me aback until I got used to it.

When we first moved here in 2003, we were put back by that. People at work asked us what church we went to, do you have a church, etc. I also recall being at Walgreens and out of no where the woman behind me in line started a religious conversation. Since then I haven't been directly approached, but it is quite prevalent here. A LOT more so then where we were from in Western NY. I just asked my wife if she still gets that and she did say that everyone at the Dr's office she works at talks about church all the time. So short answer is yes.

Yeah, but they can be annoying though when they come knocking on your door unexpectedly, just like any other solicitor. We've had this happen a few times in a year & get a lot of stuff hung on our door too.

They're nice & all, but I find it a bit rude in general. Faith is really no ones business but your own.

Get serious! Why would anybody be taken aback by "which church do you go to"? This is the south and lots of people go to church in the south. You can either say you do or you don't or don't answer the question. It is just an icebreaker. Ever since I moved here strangers I meet would always open a conversation about the Jaguars and I found out pretty quick that sports down here was equally a religion too. I would only be taken aback if they tried to get me to join a church or become a Jag fan. Now that would be going too far.

One of the things I like about JAx and surrounding areas is how southern and friendly people are. Where I live in FL, people could care less about how you are even doing, much less what church you go to.

I'll take the good folks of North FL with church questions anyday!

I've met a lot of really nice "churchy" people here. (churchgoing folks). Have never found any of them overly "religious" or offensive or in need of a warning sign either, my goodness. I also don't mind people want to include talk about God or their church life in conversation if that's important to them. If they go on and on and on...that's different but I truly don't believe that is the case most of the time.

Here its part of the culture where in other parts of the country religion is considered to be a more private matter.

To be honest when I first moved here I was asked
"are you a Gator or a Nole more often than "where do you go to church"

The apartment I lived in when I first moved here would have "visitation day" on Tuesdays with the folks from First Baptist.

Someone knocked on my door and asked "Do you watch TV "
When I said yes they asked if I watched their services

When I said I never heard of them they wanted to come in for a chat

Being the polite Italian girl from NJ I asked if they would like a beer or drink
I had no idea they didn't drink
They never came to visit again
