Asian Communities in Jax?
Hello,
I am going to move to Jacksonville sometime in June due to job transition.
I am looking to get to know few Asian people/communities in the city, particularly Indonesian. Is anyone here an Indonesian, or know anybody that is Indonesian, or can share information about an Indonesian community? I am also looking for sort of asian professionals community, possibly in the 20's or 30's age range, although any age range would be fine by me.
I am going to be in Jax in May for a visit, and I am hoping I could meet few people then to build friendship early on in the city. Just to clarify as to not creating negative perception, I am not only interested in building friendship with Asians. I just thought looking for Asian connection might be a bit harder since it seems the population only represents 3-4% of total population in Jax. Thus, my posting in this forum.
A little bit off the topic, if anybody could recommend a great church as well, that would be fantastic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!
SL

Can't really say we have a noticeable Indonesian population in JAX. And we don't have a dedicated Asian community, not Asian shopping centers, hang outs, nothing. We do have however, couple dozen small grocery stores spread out across JAX, and many are catered to SouthEast Asian communities.
Do a thread search on 'Asian' and you'll find more information that's been talked about.

We certainly do have a lot of Asian areas. Jax Beach & Country Club for one, some of the nicer areas in the Southside as well. For middle income, the Westside of town has pockets.

This weekend is the Filipino Pride Day Festival. Someone posted it on here. I'm pretty sure you can get a lead or two on what's available in Jax.
They have a website.
Han.
OOPS! I guess I was too late LOL!

I think that there is an Asian presence in Jax..just more of a mix. Try checking out yelp.com. Also, there are certain nights at area clubs that are known for "Asian" nights. Tera Nova has 1 Friday dedicated..hope this helps and good luck to you!
