What made you chose Jax?
What was the deciding factor in chosing Jax over the other Florida cities? Are there more employment opportunities or is the cost of housing less or did you find it prettier or is it the closeness to the ocean? There are so many beautiful places in Fla. and I'm just curious what brought you to Jax.

It's not what brought us to live in the area, but good arguments for Jax are:
Rarely gets direct hurricane hits
The weather
Less crowded than other cities in FL
Close to the beach
Convenient to 95
Reasonable housing in the area (prices keep going up though!) = good resale
Decent airport
Good shopping
Good restaurants

I moved to Jax kicking and screaming, I really wanted to stay in St. Augustine. Practicality won out (the jobs were in Jax, etc.), and now I'm glad it did.
I love:
the river
the ocean
the old neighborhoods (San Marco, Miramar, Lakewood, Avondale, Ortega, Five Points...)
a downtown that's revitalizing
blue skys
stars at night (though we're losing some of that to light pollution)
day trips to Savannah, St. Aug, Orlando...
I don't like:
increased property taxes
lack of access to river and ocean from some parts of town
I should add that I moved to NE FL in general because I was sick of the housing difficulties in NYC, sick of the lack of sunlight, sick of the bus fumes up my nose and the stench of the subways.
I'd vacationed in St. Aug since I was a kid and thought I'd leave NYC behind and be a beach bum! Ha Ha!
Now I just want to be as close in to the center of Jax as possible...more city please! I guess I'm a city girl after all.

Soon Cy soon
can't wait till you move down and meet the other jax C-D gal HIF
see you will know 3 people and if we get jammie to move here theres another one
I moved here 15 years ago. My sister moved here 27 years ago and I spent 12 coming down each year to visit. I decided I wanted to watch my niece and nephew grow up, so when the chance to move happend I packed up and moved.
Best decision I ever made
I love living here. Didn't realize how much until the transfer to Atlanta didn't happen(yay)

That was some really good reasons to choose Jax.
So does Jax feel as populated as say Orlando for instance? I realize Jax covers a huge area so are you saying it doesn't feel as crowded there?
Is the cost of housing still going up in Jax since it's dropping in central and southern Fla?

jammie
I have seen some prices come down
a house that started for sale at $419k sold for $389k
I think a lot of the houses that were priced to high to start with are sitting.
we have 1 house that between the high price and really bad curb appeal it hasn't seen much action.

That's the same way it's even been where I live and our real estate didn't jump nearly the way it did in Florida. When the market was so high we were wondering how most people could even afford to buy anything of a home there. When we started seeing mobile homes on rented land for nearly 100,000, we feared the market would keep increasing and we'd never be able to afford to live there. Well, I guess we do have a tent and a sleeping bag.

I have seen prices reduce a little, but but not like Southern FL...
Depending on the area of Jax you decide to live and work will have different traffic issues. Its not near as crowded as Orlando, although people who drive in rush hour in busy areas may disagree. I love St Johns county as it has less traffic and seems more wide open. The Southside and Baymeadows going up to JTB towards the beach has a lot of traffic, and I would hate to drive that mess during 5:00 traffic...
All and all Jacksonville is pretty nice, Im ready to move on, but it's been a nice city to live in.
