The city was named for General Andrew Jackson. 1st military Gov. of the FL territory, the first governor of Fl and the 7th president of the US.

I think there's a statue of 'Andy' at the Landing (brain cramp this morning, so I'm fuzzy on that grrrr).

Just to be clear, I knew that and was being sarcastic. But good to have it there for anyone else who might have been wondering.

Yes. I believe there was talk about moving it, but it's still there right now.

Sorry, but I find nothing wrong with the name, Jacksonville...sure as hell beats Cowford. Nor do I feel it's worth considering changing it at all.

Believe it or not, I am pretty sure Andrew Jackson never even made it to what we now refer to as modern day Jacksonville!
