Has there ever been any movement for Jacksonville to CHANGE its name?

'Jacksonville' just doesn't work for a large city.

Jax is large, but has a slow, smaller city mentality, and I think that's what many folks like about it.

Ville is fine for use as a city's suffix. Even if the region is over 1 million people.
Metros over 1,000,000
Jacksonville, Nashville, Louisville
Metros over 100,000
Knoxville, Charlottesville, Asheville, Fayetteville, Greensville, Evansville, Gainesville, Huntsville, Clarksville

Ville is French for village. Perhaps something like polis, which is Greek for city, is more accurate now. So, Jacksonville could be renamed to Jacksonpolis. Jacksoncity sounds too small-townish. Perhaps we could use a Spanish suffix, in keeping with the areas Spanish history. Does anybody know of a Spanish suffix that means city?

No, I think Jax'ville is just fine, no need to go into the spanish names; I think south FL has that covered, lol. Like someone mentioned about, many cities have the "ville" at the end, even some as big as Jax!

Or we could go even further back and call Jax by it's original Timucuan name, "Wakka Palatka" ... although our neighbors to the South in Palatka might not be too happy about that one.

I like the name Jacksonville, not to mention who it is named after. I think it is perfect.
