Default Professional Basketball Comes to Jacksonville

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

United States Basketball Association announces Jacksonville franchise

The United States Basketball Association has announced a charter franchise for the City of Jacksonville.

The United States Basketball Association (USBA) is based in Atlanta, Georgia and has franchises in Atlanta; Birmingham, AL; Montgomery, AL; Richmond, VA; Savannah, GA; Columbia, SC; Nashville, TN; Augusta, GA and in Huntington, VA. The schedule will consist of 20 games; ten home and ten away.

The Jacksonville Admirals will be playing at the Adams-Jenkins Sports Center on the campus of Edward Waters College and will be coached by James Easton. Easton has coached at the high school level for many years and has officiated at all levels.

Easton says, “I am very honored to have been given a chance to be a head coach at the professional level. We will bring an exciting brand of basketball to the Jacksonville area that is fan friendly and affordable as well.”

The season starts on May 6th with a home game against the Montgomery Generals. For ticket information, please call Duane Jenkins at 770-899-6388. You can also go to our website at www.usbaball.com.

I'd love to see em survive, but it's so tough to compete with the NBA. They must expect good things, because they plan to expand in 2010 and add several more teams.

Give them a chance, ya never know! Just going back in time to the formations of current professional sports leagues/associations. Doubtful, yes, but it is another source of entertainment, and I think it is in a good location for a larger audience.

Is this pretty much the same as what was the CBA or the NBA Development League? I have heard of USBA and I think the CBA is out of business. But I'm pretty sure the NBA Dev League is still around.

Doubt this will be another AFL that eventually forces the NBA into a merger...however...if NBA is the goal, then this is the first step. A city has to prove it can support a minor league team first. (Not that I think we have a shot at an NBA team in the next couple decades)

I'd go to the games if I lived up there definitely. There will be a lot of talented guys in this league that just werent quite good enough to make it to the NBA, but might have been good college players. If it's anything like the NBA Development League, these guys are making $35k, 45k, maybe $80k (the best players), so they are also doing it for the love of the game, as well as a chance to be in the NBA. And I bet tickets will be fairly cheap too.

I'm sure there are some talented guys in this league. I'm a basketball fan. I'd watch high school basketball if that's all there was (but not women's basketball)

I went onto the USBA website and tried to click on the teams and check their rosters to see what players they have, but it wouldnt let me. Maybe a bad internet connection or the website was having difficulty, I dunno.
