Clearly you've never spent a summer in the Pacific Northwest!
Sorry. I just had to add that. I too am interested in St. Augustine (oldest continually inhabited western city in the US) and found the remark about every place being hot in summer a bit funny. I've been freezing my tail off for weeks. Today's forecast here is cold, fog, with a chance of sun some time next week.
No it's not cold (about 60) but it's certainly not hot. With the lack of sun and the wet air, it's sort of bone-chilling. Typical San Francisco Bay Area summer.
I think it was Mark Twain who said the coldest winter of his life was a summer in San Francisco. I'm a Texas gulf coast transplant and in 25 years still haven't gotten used to the weather here. If you're looking for cool summers, anything on the west coast from SF on up should do the trick.
Local people keep saying this is a Mediterranean climate....uhm, I'v been to the Mediterranean and this ain't it!
Sorry to interrupt the thread. It's a great thread.
