Default Rabies alert in section of Jacksonville

Received this from the city today:

Jacksonville, FL - Duval County’s first rabies alert of the year is in effect through August 4, 2009 for the Granada area of Jacksonville.

The Rabies Alert area is bordered on the north by the Hendricks Avenue at Alford Place, on the south by Hendricks Avenue at St. Johns River, on the east by Emerson Street at Phillips Highway and on the west by St. Johns River.

The alert follows the discovery of a rabid raccoon in the Granada area. Pet owners in the alert area should confine their animals and be certain that each one has received current rabies immunization shots from a licensed veterinarian.

Stray animals should be reported to the City of Jacksonville Animal Care and Control Division at 630-2489.

For further information or to report animal bites, please contact Rabies Control at 253-1280.

I think Hendricks at the St. Johns is at the southbank, at the riverwalk. (?) I know, it isn't clear at all. It sounds as though it is a section within the San Marco/St. Nicholas area.

When I first lived in Jax over a decade ago....there was a big alert around the Hannah Park (Mayport Naval Station) area. We would get raccoons at night around the garbage cans and get all freaked out. LOL! I guess it comes up from time to time since Jax is so great about having so many wooded areas among the neighborhoods.

Sounds like the southern boundary would be Emerson.
