I live in Fleming Isand actually in Eagle Harbor and I think from what I hear you will be happy with the Lighthouse Apartments. I have always lived in Clay County and I can understand why you would not want to stay in Palatka or Middleburg as they are not built up enough. From Fleming Island I feel like I could go anywhere from downtown Jax (to see a Jags game or the Landing) or go to St Aug beach by going thru Green Cove Springs to SR 16. I am a big fan of Fleming Island and I think you will be happy (check out the Mellow Mushroom and Whitey's Fish Camp for a few happening places close by)

I was in Palatka in the mid 60s and didnt like it much. But I was young and dumb back then so I might like it better now. I donno.

But it is interesting how Palatka got its name. This should tell you something about the town.

In the old days before there were bridges there used to be a river crossing for cattle there.

One hot day a feller was walking behind this cow and he heard this plopping, splatting, sound," PLAT KA"!

He figured that would be a good name fer this place.

An that how the town got its name.
