I have done a 180 on Jax since first finding this site when I wanted to flee two+ years ago. I decided to start looking for what I wanted to find- and I did!

I now see Jax as a place of opportunity. I have found a position with a company that is great, have creative, positive coworkers. I haven't been able to check out all the restaurants that I would like to BC I am too busy with my kids and all the things that they are involved with. We even have a Whole Foods now.

Culturally, we have more than I have had time to check out, but what I have seen has been as good as anywhere that I have been. I've never been to a musical or symphony performance at the Times Union Center that was not wonderful. Florida Theater and the great bands that they bring. Art Walk, the jazz fest, I could go on and on.

The parks and beaches- can't say enough about them. Our location- the best in FL. Can be in the mountains, Key West or the aquarium in Atlanta in a days drive.

Other than all night bars for the very young adult and, okay, to be honest, the school system, what is Jax lacking? Nothing, IMO. Lower cost of living and all of the above.

Personally I think the cost of living here is great... The only thing I would like to see here in JAX is 7-11... I miss having a slurpee on a hot day...

I don't see Jacksonville as lacking anything honestly, but I'm sure that'll change very soon.

Default Since we're making a wishlist.......

Trader Joes would be good. Also an IKEA, a Macy's/Bloomingdale's/Nordstrom's. How about a Dean & Deluca? Mmm .

I'd like more independent coffee shops as well as other chains. More bookstores that are worth lounging around in (like Chamblins), more art supply stores (what I wouldn't give for a Pearl Paint!! Pearl Fine Art Supplies - Artist oils watercolor paint canvas paper portfolios frames easels drafting supplier). More restaurants that are Vegan/Vegetarian-friendly and are open late! Some nights I don't want to go to dinner until 9 or 10pm! More cafe seating, I think this is vital - it's a huge selling point to me on a restaurant choice.

Pocket Parks everywhere! And a more accessible river! Why is Memorial Park the only decent urban riverfront park??

While we're at it, the city should start creating districts. For example, Phillips Highway between Emerson and Baymeadows has become a "Decorator's Row" of sorts. If you need granite countertops or a new sofa, you have some great options on that stretch of road. District overlays that will encourage certain businesses to flock together to create destinations would be a very smart thing for this city to do - especially considering it's size. Think "Little Italy" or "Chinatown", these become destinations in their own right.

I think we need a Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World here. Yeah, we have 2 Gander Mountain stores in the area, but Outdoor World just offers a much different atmosphere.

Ditto Bass Pro Shops.

Also, I'd like to have a Bahama Breeze here. If you're not familiar with it, Google it. Food is good, atmosphere is awesome!

Definitely have to agree!! The West Marine Super Store, off of JD Butler/9A is very nice, but very pricey! Actually, we drove to the Orlando Bass Pro Shop to buy a GPS card that neither West Marine or Gander had! We wanted it right away.
