So, he'ssohott,

If you were to move back to Jax - where would you move to and why?
Well, if I was so blessed I would look at SW Jax for nice affordable housing, plus my sis lives over there and the parents aren't too far from her. I wouldn't mind some of the Oakleaf neighborhoods. It's really nice back there. Diverse, somewhat young. My next choice would be some of the communities going towards the beach like Marsh Landing.

Hmmm...that's different than I would have thought you'd say.

Oakleaf has nice new homes (there's something to be said for that...like a new car ), and I would expect it to be more affordable out that way. But it's kind of quiet and suburban.....I would have thought you'd say Riverside or something, just because you seem to know where all the clubs and nightlife is.....you never know 'til you ask !

Smile springfield

Yes, Springfiled is really that bad. Although it is a historic district and designated areas have been renovated and have the most beautifully restored historic homes you can imagine. YOU DO NOT WANT TO LIVE THERE. The renovated areas are only a very small portion of the Springfield area. Hopefully in the years to come the entire area can be renovated and made into a beautiful, safe place to live, and is around the corner from your future job (I work at UF also), that is not where you would want to live. Jacksonville is a beautiful place and has tons of options for living that would suit your family's needs so I would suggest that you continue your search for a safer enviroment.

A handy tool to check out current crime statistis in the Jacksonville areas is:

http://maps2.coj.net/crimestatsdiscl.asp?sJAxGIS=Y (broken link)

It shows crimes reported in the last six months. While the Northshore and Springfield communities may be closer to your work location, I personally would stick to San Marco, Avondale, Riverside communities. Riverside can be spotty, not sure about the others. Riverside can have sh**-hole rentals that haven't been refurbished that have undesirable renters and crime problems, so be sure you check the place out before you commit.
