Interesting Jacksonville fact: The movie industry originally tried to establish itself in the Jacksonville area in the twenties. But the local city leaders ran them off because they didn't want them and their immorality contaminating the minds, lives, and souls of the godly people of Jacksonville. I am not making this up.

What city didn't run off things based on immorality in 1920s?

the Casa Marina hotel (and restaurant) hosted many of these movie stars, including Laurel & hardy, Charlie Caplin, Jean Harlow, etc. It' the oldest structure at the beach.
Not movie stars, but they also hosted Capone & other gangsters, along with Harry Truman, and other Presidents too.
FYI.
Lots of famous movies were made in Jax. Creature from the Black Lagoon, some of the Tarzan movies, for example. In fact, the "movie district" was in Downtown, Springfield, and just outside of these areas.
But who needs Hollywood anyways?

As far as crime goes, there is crime everywhere, of course. You have to wonder, though, with this little girl abducted day before yesterday in a family area of Orange Park....the officer who was on the scene of the attempted abduction 10 days earlier "forgot" to let the Grove Park school know that there was someone preying on kids walking home from school. What's with the police? (we won't mention the 87 registered sex offenders in her neighborhood. And people wonder why there are so many gated communities around here)

By the way, Parks, what exactly is "bum on bum" crime? That makes it OK?

Cynical, Ponte Vedra is no different from the rest. Just because they wear LaCoste doesn't mean they don't think the same way. Trust me.

Amazing and outrageous. But like many things the police in FL aren't top notch.
That young mother who was abducted Amber Lee, she did everything right and the police and 911 screwed it up and she was murdered. No reason that had to happen. She told them on the cell phone the type of car, the direction it was heading, she even got the attention of other drivers who were advised not to follow the car as the police were on it....no they weren't.
How many times has FL been in the national news for child abductions?

Jacksonville is not the best town to live in. I would suggest living elsewhere. Coming from up north, I have made many friends here. Live here for 20 years, would prefer to live further south. Jacksonville as a city is very limited and crime rate is so high in comparision with other larger cities. Good luck

it was his first-ever post too (ha). what does that tell you?
"Birthchild" & "Bullbay Dasher" are probably the same person. They "both" are literally brand new and are trying to scare people off using skewed crime stats.
hmm......
