Need advice..moving to JAX
Hi. I will be moving to Jacksonville,FL in a few months. I am looking to move somewhere in close proximity to Mayo Clinic as that is where i will be working. I think this is known as southeast(?) Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I am looking for an apartment/condo/townhome to rent in a safe area, close to shopping plazas. Are there any with garages? Please leave me your suggestions. I have no clue about this area at all, so any advice will be helpful.

Location wise, I would think that would be a good place to work. It's right off JTB, so you won't have to fight a million lights to get to work. It's close to the beach, so if you want to live in that area (which is nice), you definitely have that option. If you choose to live closer to downtown, Riverside or San Marco for example, your commute will be easier as you'll be traveling opposite the main rush hour traffic flow. If you're well heeled, you'll be right at home in Ponte Vedra which is also close by.
Good luck.

You also mentioned shopping areas. It's your lucky day again. The Mayo Clinic is just down J. Turner Butler Blvd. (JTB) from the nicest mall in town, Saint John's Town Center. It should help with your shopping needs quite a bit.
From wikipedia:
St. Johns Town Center is an upscale mall in Jacksonville, Florida. It opened its doors on March 18, 2005 with five anchor stores including Dillard's, Barnes & Noble, Target, Dicks Sporting Goods and Ashley Furniture. The 200-acre (0.81 km2) open-air regional mall at J. Turner Butler Boulevard and State Road 9A cost $158 million to build and boasts more than 100 retailers, many of whom used the development as an entry into the Jacksonville market. The project will also have 225 luxury apartments, two hotels and a second phase that should include upscale stores such as Neiman-Marcus and/or Nordstrom. [1] The town center is made up of a power centre and a mall. Key tenants are Anthopologie, Apple, Cache, Sephora, Williams-Sonoma, Lucky Brand Jeans, and bebe. P.F. Chang's China Bistro, Maggiano's Little Italy and the Cheesecake Factory call St. Johns Town Center home. This phase of the mall is 870,000 sq ft (81,000 m2)
Phase two, with 228,000 sq ft (21,200 m2) was opened to the public October 26, 2007. It consists of about 40 retailers and 4 restaurants.
Tenants include: abercrombie, Aerie, Aldo, Arden B., Bakers, Ballard Designs, Bare Escentuals, BCBG, Bebe Sport, Betsey Johnson, Brooks Brothers, Chicos, Clarks, Coach, Everything but Water, GUESS, Juicy Couture, Lacoste, Louis Vuitton, Lululemon Athletica, MAC Cosmetics, Marciano, Mayors Jewelers, Metropark, Mori Luggage, Pottery Barn, PUMA, Sunglass Hut, Swarovski Crystal, Talbots, The Beauty Bar, The Walking Company, Tommy Bahama, Urban Outfitters, West Elm, and White House | Black Market.
Several new stores and restaurants opened in 2008: True Religion, Cole Haan, Kate Spade, Yogaberry, The Capital Grille, Cantina Laredo, J. Alexander's and Mitchell's Fish Market.

As far as renting goes, do you have to rent something without coming to town? Otherwise, I'd think your best bet would be to come and look around for at least a couple of days before deciding what areas of town you like and then start narrowing down a specific apt./condo you want to live in.

i don't have the specific names of any rentals for you, but I can tell you the area around Mayo is very nice. You should have no problem finding a rental on San Pablo, Hodges or Beach Blvd. This will keep you very close to work, the beach, and all the shopping and dining in the area. The area you'll be working in is known as "Intracoastal West".
