The crime is not that bad here when compared to other metropolitan cities and is even lower in the outlying suburbs...

I like Jacksonville's big "small" city feel to it. I also like it's southern heritage and influence it has, as mentioned in the article. I think since Jax, even though very different from the other big Florida cities, since it's still in the state of FL (although some may say it's more like GA or AL), it's not immune to Florida's "supply and demand" situation we are having - statewide.

Jax crime's high. It's the highest, if not the 2nd highest in the state. Yes, it was ahead of both Miami and Orlando. Orlando led the way the last 2 yrs (I think), but murders in Orlando are down, so Miami or Jax may be at the top (the worst) again. But up against Detroit, Memphis, St Louis... not even close to how bad those cities are.
Not sure about Miami, but in Orlando, crime seems to be a widespread problem. Jax is more NW quadrant if I remember correctly. We have friends in Jax Bch., and while I think the area's decent, it looks a little sketchy, IMO.

Using this random site I found google searching and picking some random cities in FL I found that all of them had higher crime rates than JAX (Orlando, Miami, West Palm Beach, Sarasota, Ocala)...
Given that these ratings are completely arbitrary, I'm just curious where you are getting your statistics from...

It's kinda funny how some people just can't stand to read anything positive about Jacksonville.
I thought the thread was about Jacksonville being among America's Best Affordable Places to Retire - US News and World Report.
Not about crime comparisons.
