Greater Jacksonville Fair
I just moved here from Finland so I don't even have an idea what a "fair" is. So what is it. We are a group of 21 year olds.. is it fun?! What does it have? I heard it's really good but I don't see what could be fun about it after seeing the website.

A "fair" is a temporary festival or carnival of sorts, in this case annual.
- Bumper cars, ferris whell, merry go-rounds, small roller coaters, etc.
- Shooting games, throwing games, darts, etc to win prizes (usually a stuffed animal)
- haunted houses, house of mirrors, maze house
- dunking booth
- farm & exotic animals to pet
- all kinds of cheap, fried foods
- psychics, palm readers, weight guessers, magic tricks
- it can be fun if you don't expect much. frequented by kids and teenagers, mostly. though easily amused people will get a kick out of it too.

By looking at the ads for this Fair, it's not nearly as big as the Fairs we been to before. The Colorado State Fair, Cheyenne Frontier Days, Los Angeles and Orange County Fairs were huge compared to this. This will be nice for a smaller Fair, but we like the bigger ones.

Most folks say the Clay County Fair is always MUCH better than what we get in Jax. But, it looks like they've hired a different amusement company this year, so I guess we'll see if it's any better.
I was watching a show a few weeks ago, I think it was called Man VS Food. It's on Netflix Instant Watch. One episode had the guy attending a state fair in TX. You should have seen all the tasty lookin' treats they served there. I was jealous!!

Texas State Fair is insane, no doubt. In the hood though.

My family and I spent about 6 hours at the fairgrounds today. We had a really good time. We bought wristbands for my 5- and 2-yr-olds, and they had a blast on the kid rides. That was money well spent. It may not be the "best" fair in the nation, but we provided some great memories for our kids.
I will say, though, that I'm glad we went during the daytime. I think we got there at about 2pm. The crowds were light and a lot of families were there. But, come 6:30 or so, the teens started arriving and it got crowded. That's normal, I know, but it wasn't until that time when we found out what kinda parenting these adolescents don't get. I didn't want to be around for all that, so we made our way to the exit by 8pm.

We went to the fair last night, mostly just to get out of the house. Yes, I have seen bigger fairs. I think that young children will love it, and probably teenagers, not so much adults.
Next year I will save my money for the State Fair in Tampa or for one of the amazement parks in Orlando.
