Default Jax wedding locations.

I'm fairly new to Jax (been here 4 years) and I am getting married next year. I have absolutely no idea where to have the wedding, and google has been no help at all. It is not going to be a large wedding (25-30 people) and we are not hiring a wedding planner as it will be way out of our price range. I was looking for something outside, but inside is fine too. As you can see, I'm not really picky. I just want something very pretty. A chapel, outside, a very pretty area that someone knows of....anything. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't know of that many places in Jacksonville, so I need your help.

if you like the beach, some beach clubs in PVB rent space, or some of the larger hotels have ballrooms you can rent

A lot will depend on what kind of wedding you want to have.
Do you want a quiet dinner or do you want the bigger dancing, cake cutting etc.
At the beach there are quite a few places you can check out.
The Beaches Womans Club rents out for parties. You can even bring in your own caterer.
You could also check with the nicer hotels at the beach to see what they have available for parties of your size.
I have friends that have had weddings at the Sea Turtle Inn. They get married on the beach then head in for the reception.
Over in Orange park there is the Winterbourne and Club Continental. I have been to weddings at both of these places and they are very nice.
My advise would be to sit down with your fiance and decide on what kind of wedding you want to have. If your family and friends are big dancers you will want a larger room that will have a dance floor.(if this is true I can give you tips on picking a Wedding DJ) Or are they the type that enjoy catching up and visiting during weddings. Then a smaller more intimate setting might be a better choice.
Then start making phone calls to see if the different places can accommodate your wants and needs.
I was a wedding DJ on weekends for over 20 years, the thing to remember is this is your day . Have fun with the planning.don't get caught up in the "Aunt Ava can't eat meat, Cousin Joe doesn't like seafood and so on......" issues that I have seen make brides "crazy".

One thing to keep in mind is Friday nights and Sunday afternoons will be better prices than a Saturday night.
Another couple tips
Tell the shop where you are getting your dress that the wedding is 10 days before the actual date just in case there is an issue there is still time to correct it.
Get your shoes and break them in early, a bride with sore feet is not a happy bride.
If there is a chance that you may "smash" the cake in each others faces(most couples say "No way that won't happen" but fall to the "peer pressure of the guests ) throw your boquet and garter first then cut the cake. That way you won't have to stop and clean up for the pictures before you continue.

Wow Myfask! If I ever trade in hubby for a new model, I know just who to ask for wedding coordination !

Before deciding to elope (we did !), I looked at the lighthouse in St. Augustine. Not in the actual lighthouse, but the building in front of it (historical too I believe). You'd be right off the water, it's a good sized room with beautiful hardwood floors and high ceilings. You'd just bring your catering in.

I have DJ'd everything from very simple to lavish weddings and enjoyed every wedding I ever did.
But when we got married we got on the cruise ship, got off the ship in Grand Caymans with 2 of the ships bartenders as our witnesses met the minister got married and back on the ship. It worked for us

lol now I am remembering how much I enjoy weddings I may have to call my friend who is a DJ and ask him if I can tag along to one. I love the Introductions, first dance, boquet/garter part I think I need a "fix"

Moonliteden,

You can get married on the beach...and usually for free! I just got married a year ago and we got married at Ocean Breeze Conference Center which is on the beach and on Mayport. You don't have to be military to get married there, but it was great! We got married on the beach and then walked up for the reception. It would help how much $$ you are willing to spend though.

Also, the Woman's Garden Club is off of Riverview on the St. Johns River and isn't very expensive-you bring your own caterer, ect. Have you thought of a park either? There's a park on the River in Riverside??

Either way, good luck!

I got married in Hanna Park- they have a glassed in pavillion called Dolphin Plaza right on the beach. It wasn't very expensive, we got married in air conditioning but with a great view of the ocean, and I was even able to bring in caterers for the event!

There is a cute little chapel in the San Marco area ( I think it is the historical society?). It is on Atlantic Blvd. less than a half block from the intersection of Hendricks Ave. & Atlantic Ave. We had some friends that got married there last year. Also, there was the "Little Brown Chapel" on the west-side on Normandy Blvd. (I guess it is still there?) The Hilltop Club is also nice, we had a class reunion there, and there was a wedding going on at the same time.
