I am also plannin to move to Jacksonville, workin in downtown Jacksonville.
I would really appreciate it, if some one can tell me what's the best zip codes to live in. I am looking for good schools, no crime, and better value for houses. We are not big into nightlife or shopping.

Thank you.

in you don't mind the commute, it sounds like Mandarin if you are looking for actual house. but driving from mandarin to downtown is about 30mins. maybe longer if you drive during peak rush hour. A+ schools, reasonable priced housing, convenience, and overall decent.

I think it's great you are considering teaching in our area. Teach for America is a great organization. I know how important it is to have a good teacher. My son who has ADHD was just put in the ESE program (19 years old) because of reading problem discovered very late, maybe too late. After dealing with his issues for years, it is now very apparent what teachers were good teachers and not so good for students with problems and it takes really good teachers to reach kids in urban communities where they have so many life issues to deal with. Here is a link to homes in North Jax and it may give you some ideas on what part of town you want to live in. http://www.trulia.com/FL/Jacksonville/
Good Luck and God Bless!

I would be working in one of the urban schools, but am not really interested in living in the downtown area. My main concerns are housing (I am working on the assumption that mine will be the only income, as my husband is partially disabled, so affordable housing in a good neighborhood is key). We also have a 14 year old son who is starting high school next fall, so the public schools in the area are of prime importance to us. I have heard good things about the St. John county public school district and would not mind having to commute to downtown.

I presently live in Miami, so long commutes are nothing new. Any and all information on neighborhoods and high schools are greatly appreciated!
If you decide on St. Johns County, to reduce your commute, I would try to stay in Creekside or Nease school zones, that will put you closer to I-95. Mandarin High School is supposed to be good as well.
