I came upon Get Your Walk Score - A Walkability Score For Any Address which allows you to determine if your neighborhood is convenient to shopping/dining, schools and entertainment based on entering your address. The higher your score, the more walkable your neighborhood. I reside in the 5000-5599 block of Norwood Ave and my score was 85. Not bad for living in the 'hood. Let's see how my fellow Jacksonville folks do

Default walkabilty.

Thanks for the site. Beat you on Norwood. I came it at 92 in Atlantic bch near town Center. I have lived all over Jax and the Atlantic-Neptune Bch town center is very nice, very handy..plus the Beach.

thanks for the link
I checked my address and it got a pretty low "score" which I find strange because I am less than a mile from 2 grocery stores as well as quite a few restaurants. We are also maybe 2 blocks from an "A" elementary & middle school as well as maybe 1 mile from the new high school that is opening fall 2010.

We are 4.3 miles from the St Johns Town center and you can walk thee if you want because there are sidewalks the whole way.

Unless you live in Riverside or right at the beach, Jacksonville is virtually un-walkable.

Riverside, Avondale, San Marco, Springfield, Downtown, and parts of the Beaches are generally considered the most walkable, as the article on post #2 suggests.
