Hi, I am thinking of moving to Jacksonville and am looking (online, not in person) at two apartment buildings downtown: The Carling, and 11 East Forsyth. I did a google street view for each and they looked clean and safe, but it is hard to tell.

Any Input?????

Thanks

Yes, they are safe. There have been zero homicides in the Downtown core over the past 2 years.

Downtown does have it's share of petty crimes though, of course, like many other areas of the city.

Many young professionals and artistic types live in those 2 buildings specifically.

There are many homeless Downtown though, so you'll get asked for change a lot. (oh the horror!)

About 2,600 people live Downtown right now, a relatively low number. The city is exploring ways to boost this, along with more commerical development that is lacking compared to otjher larger cities.

Here's a couple recent article about actually living Downtown, day to day:

1) Charlie Patton's account of living in downtown's W.A. Knight Lofts | Jacksonville.com

2) Meet the 'Downtownies': Frank Sr., Natacha and Frank Jr. | Jacksonville.com

Downtown is fun, lots to do. Not as much as a typical big city, but still lots to do.

Anyone have any updated info on 11E? Like anyone who has stayed there and can give an honest review?

Ive been to the Carling but may rent in 11 E because of availability . Anything positive or negative anyone could add would be helpful.

If noone responds here, try Metro Jacksonville | Covering Downtown Jacksonville FL, Northeast Florida, Jacksonville Transit, History, Neighborhoods, Photos. It's a website/forum more focused on the in-town neighborhoods and downtown Jax. Should get lots of input there.
