I am looking at apt's in the Jacksonville area and obviously some seem better then others. My question is when looking at these through various sites, is there any zip code(or area) when I see it, I should just keep moving. Let me know, thanks.

Depends. Zipcodes are an arbitrary division. For example, Avondale is one of the the nicest & most popular neighborhoods in the city, but a couple miles down the road there is a pretty darn rough part of town....all in the same zip code (32205). One end of Edgewood Ave is very nice & upscale, but just a couple miles down the road it's NOT an area you'd ever want to live in. The more dense, urban zipcodes of 32202, 32204, 32205, 32206, & even 32207 will be this way.

possibly relocating to jax - can you advise?
Looking for some honest answers please. Have been reading blogs on this site re Jax and most are not very flattering.
My husband has been offered a job transfer to Jax and I am having a difficult time
accepting this option. It will be a promotion as well as pay raise but money isn't everything. However, to be fair, I am willing to consider the move and try to find out what it has to offer.
I am a small town girl at heart. We currently live in a rural town in Pennsylvania just 1 hour north of Philadelphia. I have lived in NYC, New Orleans, and Houston, so I am indeed familiar with city living. I LOVE the mountains, hills and valleys, appreciate all 4 seasons but enjoy summer the LEAST. I dislike being hot. In other words, do you think there is anything in Jax, in a social/entertainment area, that will provide me some enjoyment?
Children are grown and all living throughout the United States so schools are not an issue. It will just be my husband and me, both 50 years old/young. We prefer to live in a community that is NOT vanilla, i.e. shopping strips/malls, chain restaurants, etc. Some character and personality to our surroundings would be desired. Our price range is up to $250,000. Would you please suggest some areas for us to consider based on the above mentioned preferences?
Also, what about bugs?
Palmetto bugs? Does everyone have these disgusting things? Is one able to get rid of them or are they just a fact of life in Jax?
What about traffic. From what I read, there are more highways than not in the Jax area. Is traffic always heavy? Our travels here in PA always consists of back roads through small towns, past farms, fields, valleys, cattle grazing, etc. What do the travels in your area offer as far as scenery is concerned?
My husband's company will be sending us down to Jax this May to "check it out" before making our final decision. Would like to look at some homes while we are there and drive around to some sights of culture or whatever while we are there. Any advise would be truly appreciated.

- search for 'Riverside Avondale Springfield San Marco' in City-Data and you'll find your answer. Look through a few pages of results. 250k will go far in Springfield, pretty far in Riverside, not as far in Avondale or San Marco. But i'm not sure what you need in a house.

as has been noted by others, CD seems to be a green light to bash everything you don't personally like. so it's a lot of negativity, unfortunately. also, since Jax is so large, many people have no clue about certain areas of thier city, which doesn't help.
Other things...bugs aren't bad, just spray. Traffic is fine, unless you travel certain routes. It's best to live not too too far from work, if able. It's
hot here probably 5 months out of the year. We do have 4 true seasons though. Cold weather stays for a few months typically. Mild the other 4 months out of the year.

possibly relocating to jax - can you advise?
My husband has been offered a job transfer to Jax and I am having a difficult time 
accepting this option. It will be a promotion as well as pay raise but money isn't everything. However, to be fair, I am willing to consider the move and try to find out what it has to offer. 
Palmetto bugs? Does everyone have these disgusting things? Is one able to get rid of them or are they just a fact of life in Jax?
