My husband and I, just found out that his job is moving us to Jacksonville area. I was looking at houses in Fruit Cove and St. Johns. We are looking to spend no more than $350,000 on a home and have to very young children. I was born and raised in Poland, so I am a little concerned that I might have a hard time fitting in....Please let me know what u think!! We will be moving in about three months. THANKS SO MUCH!!

Actually, you'll probably fit in with no problem. Jacksonville tends to be a "transplant city" with lots of people who aren't from here. Houses are also fairly inexpensive, well below the level of $250k. Fruit Cove and St. Johns are very nice suburban areas with good schools.

Fruit Cove? Are you kidding me? It's a beautiful area. Very suburban, but very beautiful. Don't worry you'll love it if you like suburban living. Yes, you will fit in. If your attitude is right you will fit in anywhere.

If you are okay with American suburbia, those are fine choices. However, I would make sure that you are aware of your potential commutes. Commuting from Fruit Cove to the Southside is a lot different than commuting to Downtown or to the Beaches or to the Westside. Just be aware

I just met a man at Mediterrania Restaurant on Baymeadows whose son had just gotten married. So it was this crazy celebration...anyway, he came over and introduced his wife and her son (from a previous marriage) who are Polish and relatively recent immigrants. The guy was so friendly, wanted to buy us dinner, and was as much of a Texan southerner as you'll ever meet. Cute couple, haha.

Oh and growing up in grade school I had a friend whose family was all Polish. So they do exist here. Sorry for the random diversion...welcome to Jax, you'll be fine!

Don't know why - but JAX has a large number of first generation immigrants from eastern Europe (places like Belarus - Romania - Albania - Russia - am not sure about Poland). Think if you dig a little (churches might be a good place to start if you're religious) - you can find some people to talk with - and get their ideas about where you would be most happy. Robyn
