"Unless you are actually a Florida Gators, FSU, or Georgia Bulldogs fan (or decide to jump on the bandwagon) you may want to puke after seeing the bumper stickers, flags, decals, license plates, houses, and mailboxes etc., etc. ad naseum displaying the team logos. These are the ONLY collegiate teams that exist within a 75 mile radius of Jacksonville."
(i am saying this with a smile not being rude, ok)
you are in fla. if you want to feel more at home, i.e. where the ny'ers have invaded, try south fla or orlando. there are plenty of ny yankees and ny-rican stickers and flags. i cant throw a quarter w/o hitting a puerto-rican from ny/nj or someone from ny/nj w/ yankees, jets, knicks stuff on.

I drove through Alabama, and saw tons of Alabama and Auburn stickers, flags, decals, license plates, houses, and mailboxes etc., ad nauseum displaying the team logos.
I drove through Mississippi, and saw tons of Mississippi State and Ole Miss stickers, flags, decals, license plates, houses, and mailboxes etc., ad nauseum displaying the team logos.
I drove through Tennessee, and saw tons of Tennessee and Univ. of Memphis and Tennessee Titans stickers, flags, decals, license plates, houses, and mailboxes etc., ad nauseum displaying the team logos.
Hey, wait a minute. I think I see a pattern here! It seems like whenever you go somewhere, that particular place seems to have a regional pride in their local sports teams (college or pro). Wow...go figure.

I think the point is that SoFla, would have everything from NYC sports paraphenalia to Marlins, to you name it.. many tastes many flavors. Of course, this then lends itself to an atmosphere of transience which is a reflection of diversity. Canes, Noles, Gators and whatever else seem to be tolerated and no stigma is attached. Honestly, how much University of Miami gear do you see in Jax? 5% or less. I think that;s just the natue of it. But when you factor in religion and the the ultra conservative flavor of politics and government then it gets creepy like why aren't you a Gator fan..?? Where's your Jaguar shirt? You're a traitor with that Dolphin jersey

pure nonsense, I haven't seen anything like you've described in Jax, I really don't think anyone cares what team you support, it is quite meaningless.
FWIW most people really aren't all that interested in sports anyway

Um....WHAT??
"Religion + Ultra-conservative politics = Gator fans"? Or is is "religion times ultra-conservative politics divided by Gator fans equals Jaguars fans"? OK, dude, I'm trying my best to see a connection here, but I must admit that I'm failing miserably.

Jacksonville Living
live in Orange Park a bedroom community of JAX. I relocated 7 years ago! We love it. We moved from Upstate New York. Living in Clay County we have "A" rated schools. Our kids walk and ride bikes to school, crime is low, we have the St Johns River as well as Dr Lake for boating. It only takes 25 minutes to get downtown or 35 minutes to the beach. There are great places to dine, cultural events, professional sports as well as Noles and Gator fans galore.
The planned communities offer a unique lifestyle we had never seen before moving here. It's like Norman Rockwell or as we joke sometimes Pleasantville. Property taxes are much less than NY and there is no state income tax. We still have homestead exemption as well. We'll see how the November vote goes on the super tax break. Housing prices have come down 20% in the last 15 months which is awesome for anyone looking to buy.

What makes St.Johns/Aug schools so great? IS that because their 78% homogenous? I'll stack up a Broward County High School against the best Duval and St.John's have to offer. And apvbguy, maybe you have no inner city or urban living experience and I'm talking 5 continuous years in that setting before you start popping off. Reagarding teams -try to tell me its nothing but Gators/Gators and more the same with a few G bulldogs in there. The point is that sometimes diviersity is demonstrated by say a NY Jets or maybe a Yankees jersey. How often do you see anyo of this here< NEVER. Put it this way- J-Ville and it's sprawl is still hick- with a few splashes of civilization that are choked off with poor traffic planning and a backward city commission that gets slammed in themedia evdery day!

Um...are...you...kidding...me....
And believe me, I'm quite the optimist down here. I rather like life down here, but that statement is just rediculous. We have maybe 5 good high schools down here out of 40+ schools. That's just reality. Do you really think you could put the AVERAGE school down here up against the good high schools in St. Johns? Pure nonsense. Heck, I wouldn't even compare to a "Good" school down here. Go on GreatSchools.net and compare our 5 "good" high schools (Cypress Bay, Cooper City, Nova, Western, Stoneman Douglas) to the ones in St. Johns. Tell me who is the clear performance winner. And sorry to say it, but Cooper, Western, Stoneman Douglas, Cypress are under 15% in the free/reduced lunch category and Nova is a selective magnet school.

Is this post meant to be tongue-in-cheek?! I spoke to a JSO officer two weeks ago who told me that when the Gators lose, they have an upsurge in domestic violence calls.
Trivia- last night's FSU/Alabama game had a higher number of attendees than the Super Bowl! The highest ever... they even put out folding chairs.
