Handgun laws in Jacksonville and suburbs
Anyone know what the handgun laws are in Jacksonville and the suburbs? Is there a link somewhere? Is it hard to get a concealed carry permit?
In South Carolina, you have have your gun loaded in the glove compartment. In Virginia, it depended upon the city you were in. In DC, handguns are not allowed - with very few exceptions. In MD, there are so many restrictions, it's not worth addressing it.

You go through the state for a concealed weapon permit. I hear it's very easy to get.
A JSO officer told me last month that they are responders and that he thinks that any family that doesn't own a gun is crazy. He said that, while they don't say this in public, when they leave the scene where a criminal is dead on the ground, killed by a homeowner, they are always happy to see it. Officer Friendly doesn't live here anymore.
And here I thought that law enforcement was considered "public safety" and military were "responders".

I see that the law was amended to add the acceptance of personal checks in payment for the permit..... Which says a lot, in that they originally didn't trust the applicant enought to accept a personal check for $100, yet they trusted them enough to issue a legal document authorizing the applicant to carry a CONCEALED WEAPON!

haha Titanium, funny you should say that about MD restrictions...I grew up in MD and never knew anyone with a gun or saw a gun. When I came to FL, someone mentioned shooting their dog when she was too old and needed to be put down...when I said something like "did you borrow a gun from the police?" because I didn't know regular people were allowed to just carry guns around everyone looked at me like I had 6 eyeballs

It's very easy to have a concealed carry permit here in Jax, provided you have no background issues. I was actually in Shooters yesterday (on University, just east of Phillips Hgwy/US1) and noticed their flyer. They have concealment classes every Saturday at 10am, it's $40, $5 additional for the notary and they provide everything for the class (you don't even need to bring a gun).

I live in a rather peaceful area of Jax, although our zone includes almost 90 square miles of area that only 6 officers patrol ( on a good day). That zone includes two of the nothsides highest crime areas, so when I have a problem here at my home, yes the police are considered "responders". By the time they get here, the damage has been done.
Kudos to the JSO for all that they do with the manpower that they have. Thank you for giving me the option of being able to protect myself and my family.
And that dead bad guy on the ground is one more that I won't have to pay for while he's in jail - not working, watching tv, eating warm meals - or have to provide an attorney for thru the public defender.
.38 bullet = 26 cents
living with taking anothers life = haunted every day
knowing that my kids and I are still alive b/c of what I did = priceless

In Jacksonville are you allowed to shot a home invader? We are moving from Ohio and where we are you are not allowed to shoot a home invader which is dumb but I don't think it would stop anyone from defending themselves. But they will get jail time.
So would we be allowed to defend our home and family in jacksonville? What law is that?
