Default Beach/Restaurants on the Beach?

We are making our second house hunting trip to Jax this weekend, and we have some family coming along this time. They really want to check out the beach and maybe have a nice dinner on the water somewhere. Any suggestions?

We're looking at houses in St Johns/PV, but we're staying in the Baymeadows area, so any beach is fine. We just haven't made to the beaches yet, so I'm not familiar with where to go. Looking for a sort of "touristy", beach vibe for the out of towners!

Thanks!

The Reef on AIA. Fairly elegant. Not too expensive. Patio overlooks the water.

We went to the Reef on our relocation trip last month to St. Augustine to finalize our new house plans...we really enjoyed it! Caps on the Water is also supposed to be really nice...but it was too chilly the evening we went. The other place we liked but isn't on the beach is the Conch House.

We went to the Reef for lunch Monday on our way to St. Augustine. Haven't been there in a long time. It used to be a burger joint kind of place - but the food is higher end and a lot better now (it's not gourmet kind of stuff - but it was quite nice).

If you are really looking for a touristy beach vibe place - Joe's Crab Shack in Jax Beach is what you're looking for. Just remember to order simple stuff. Robyn

There used to be a lot more than there are now, but the Jax Beach condo craze led to the demise of at least 5 beachfront restaurants that were all good. First Street Grill comes to mind. Try the restaurant at One Ocean in Atlantic Beach. One Ocean is the newly reopened Sea Turtle and is supposed to be very nice. Though I doubt it is cheap, it has oceanfront dining. Your choices are going to be limited until we get out oceanfront restaurant scene back (I hope!).

Capps on the Water - off of A1A south of Ponte Vedra near Villano Beach. Beautiful drive. Turn right at the castle - can't miss it. Worth it - wonderful waterside restaurant, casual, beautiful sunsets, good food, trees overhanging the deck, boats at the dock.

The restaurant at One Ocean is Azurea. Has received good reviews - but is quite expensive. Haven't been there yet. Robyn
