Pickwick Apartments
I have lived in these apartments for three years, overall it is quiet and most neighbors are pleasant a lot of older people though. The surrounding are is quite nice as you are near Publix and Walmart. Congestion during rush hour can be pretty hectic, but if you are from a larger city it isn't quite as impressive as the news reports make it sound.

Hello all, I just noticied this topic. Yeah I really enjoy it here. I don't blame you for living here three years. This complex/rooms really doesn't feel like an apartment but more like a actual home, it has the look and feel of it. I like living around elders, more mature etc, friendly. Just have to watch my weight to many eating places around here. It takes about 15-20 minutes for me to get downtown to work so thats a good thing about living here. I'm looking for a good church though, I think I'll try going to celebration church. Thanks again riveree, you really were a lot of help, I'm enjoying Jacksonville and enjoying my job. Thanks again and God Bless

Well there you are !
Celebration church does seem popular, it's a big one.
Have you checked out the chocolate shop near you? It's in the same shopping center as the bridal shop and Bella hair salon. The name escapes me now, 'three sisters' or something? Anyway - fresh chocolate made on site! (I know, I'm not helping with the diet thing ).

lol yeah I'm here, this job has me a little busy. I heard of the chocalate shop I saw it the other day when I was going to subway. Yeah your not helping at all with the diet, neither is the pizza I ate the other day HAHA! But mandarin has a lot of eating places, lol But anyways thanks again for the help, I'm really enjoying Jacksonville, I have a navigation system and it's really helping me get around. Also, working downtown is nice too, going to the bay street cafe building and etc. Thanks again.

I live there, have lived there for a couple of months.
No website, but you can find several reviews at Apartment Ratings - Apartments for Rent with Ratings and Reviews from Actual Renters (just look for apts in zip code 32257; Pickwick is the highest rated).
I think that of the apartments in my neighborhood, Pickwick is the best. Hunters Way is also relatively OK, the others are terrible. Both are better managed, less homogenously low-class than the competition.
But even Pickwick and Hunters Way are more blue collar than apartments in classier neighborhoods might be, just because its not the kind of neighborhood where unattached yuppies live.
Having said that, I'm not sure I would live in Mandarin at all if my lease came up. I think the neighborhood is deteriorating. When I moved to town a year and a half ago, I did a search on the city's website and there was not a single robbery within half a mile of either Hunters Way or Pickwick.
Last week someone was jumped and robbed in front of his apartment at Pickwick. (Good news though: the criminals were caught quickly and no guns or knives were involved). And there have been two murders in apartment complexes on Sunbeam Road. If I was renting, I'd avoid Mandarin: I'd like to think there are safer areas, and it is basically a drab, ugly suburb. If you're not paranoid about safety you might as well live someplace pretty and walkable like Riverside or San Marco, and if you are there are probably newer areas that are safer (though I am not sure where).
The problem with Mandarin is that it is the worst of both worlds: suburban enough to be butt-ugly and car-oriented, but urban enough to have crime problems.

Beware if you have kids
Although Pickwick Apartments is a beautiful, quiet neighborhood, it is not kid friendly by any means. I have lived here for 9 months now and I have received complaint after compalint from my neighbors about my 3 children (ages 9, 6, & 4). This should really be a retirement community who does not allow children to live in the complex. My children have never damaged anyone's property or caused any caos but still have residents come out daily, while they are outside playing in front of our apartment, harrassing them. I would not recommend pickwick Apartments to anyone who has children.
Signed,
Extremely Unhappy Mom
