I personally wouldn't go with anything less than the 2010 XJ. Because of Jaguars “consistent” styling language (the basic shape of the XJ hasn’t changed much for several decades) every XJ prior to the redesigned 2010 looks extremely dated in comparison
Buy 2, one to drive while the other is in the shop....serious. I had a 2001 S-type, my oh my what a heap, transmission, oil leaks, oil consumption, gear whine from the diff, electrical bugs like you wouldn't believe, among others. I would avoid Jag personally, but I have no experience with that model exactly.
I'm considering the XJ as my next car purchase. Anyone have any experiance with these models? I would apperciate any feedback.
I've been on a test drive in a 2008 and I think the generation you mention is the best bet if you want the last of the modern "classic" Jaguar. I do believe all of the kinks and bugs were worked out and that this car is very reliable. Personally, I wouldn't get one without the the contrast seat piping. These are beautiful cars and one-of-a-kind. Quite the bargain for what you get too. Of course, this is all true only for folks who can "handle" buying a used car and care more about the product they're getting than the model year number or warranty (your insurance and property tax will be cheaper than if the car were new). Like I would recommend for any used car, I'd go for the lowest mileage showroom quality and newest year for the generation of this car you can find, and would keep a reserve in your savings account for repairs should they be needed. You might do some research on things like the air suspension this car has and see if that's something you can handle or would want to deal with.
Here are listings on AutoTrader for 2007-2009 XJ's sorted by mileage from lowest to highest. FYI - premium listings are first and the list starts over with "featured listings" and finally "standard listings", so don't miss out.
I am looking at the 2008-09' models because I wans the most up tp date classic jag look. Those two model years revised the front & rear bumpers & grille, & deleted all the chrome. I've test drove 3 so far, I drove a Super 8 & it was amazing.
I'm still looking. I would prefer Silver/black or black on black. One option I want is ventilated seats so it limits my color combo options.
I just bought a 2007 XJ jaguar, can someone tell me what to look for in problems, the ride is great, but to me this is a hellva up grade from a caddy but so far im loving it

I partially retract my previous statement as the last of the previous generation XJ's look pretty sharp. They look like what a retro version of the XJ would have looked like if the early XJ's stopped production. This is a 2009:

Yea that version was so hot. Sadly I just couldn't find one I liked, and to complicate matters I did not like the non super charged versions so it pretty much knocked me out of the box.
