Just saw a CL ad that required the submission of 3 references, schedule availability and salary history along with the resume, just to apply. This is for a part time sales/CS job with no advertised salary range (according to experience, they claim). The references in advance request just seems odd to me. I'm used to employers asking for this info at the interview once they've decided they want to make an offer, pending reference checks.
However another ad was more reasonable, it was posted by an employment agency, complete with contact name, email address, offered salary range and complete job description. Totally legit.
I see lots of complaints about Craigslist. Well obviously I have discovered the secret because I have gotten 3 or 4 interviews off Craigslist. So here it is---
Sit at your computer 5-6 hours a day (or more) and refresh the page. You get the postings as soon as the come up and can be the first to get your resume in. Go ahead---try it!!
I used to check the ads every hour from 9am to 6pm
I am happy I got a job and won't get evicted the 1st of the month!!
BUT...
Its $5 an hour less than I was making at my last job and still even considerably less than unemployment and its only temp 4-6 months. I now have the task of hoping to find a second nite job to be able to make it every month. I'm going to, of course keep looking for a fulltime job closer to what I was making before. Still went on 2 other interviews today after I accepted the position. At least its something and enough to pay rent! Even if I don't have water or lights!!!
I did receive 2 real job offers after replying to Craigslist, so it's not all bad. Tried to sell my house on there too , NOT SO GOOD.
Its funny because I got my house, my car and now my job off craigslist. Along with 90% of my furniture and electronics. I think I would be lost without craigslist. Its a great site if you know how to work around the scammers and junk.
