obese people are the most discriminated group. When you are lets say Polish, you can go with the Polish, when you are Catholic you can go with the Catholics, when you are FAT, nobody wants you. Its terrible but true.
2/3 may be overweight, but that can be anything from 10 or so extra pounds up to the pre-obesity threshold, so really such a wide range it's virtually meaningless.
I agree with Opyelie. When you go to a heavily populated place like the beach or a train station, you'll notice a good chunk of people are, well, chubby. But very few of them are disgustingly obese.
The problem here is with the disgustingly obese. Not just the people with a couple dozen or so extra pounds.
Just as an aside - I realise the OP's friend is female, but I have to wonder just why the word FEMALE was so stressed in the heading. Are we to assume a grossly obese female is inherently different to a grossly obese male applicant? (aside from the obvious of course)
No question that the OP's obese friend is going to find her size a virtually complete block to being hired unless she has very unique skills. And yes, it takes a long time to lose that much weight (and apparently, said friend gained a lot of it recently with emotional overeating). She might have to be on SSDI if she can even get it. I've known obese people to get it because of depression, PTSD, back pain... It helps to have a social worker running interference. Where I work, sometimes I feel like I'm one of the few people who continues to work despite various problems, when I see patients coming in all on SSDI/Medicaid for life. It ticks me off, although I should be at least as ticked off at CEOs making gazillions of dollars a week, for what?
As others have suggested, maybe the friend could do an office job from home, especially if she's already had the skill set in the office itself.
It is harder for Grossly Overweight Women than Men!
I think it is much harder for a grossly overweight woman to get and hold onto a job than a man. Where I work there are a few very successful men who are over 300 pounds (of fat not muscle) who seem to be on top of the world and act like they still are football heros in college.

let me say you are one smart cookie!~!! I really think you have common sense, very rare !!! I like your posts alot.
I guess it depends on the line of work and her overall intelligence. If she was a genius then I wouldn't care unless it was a the type of job where she had to do alot of client facing. Not to sound insensitive but you need to get her to lose weight not just to get a job but for her own health. Being unemployed, she should have plenty of time to exercise and eat right. If she actually gets a job she'll have even less time to do these things, so no time like the present.
