Does anyone have advice for how to prepare for an internal interview? The interview is with my immediate manager who, for the past several years has written all of my reviews (all glowing). They even made me go to the website and formally apply. This is definitely NOT a prestigious or upper level position at all. All of my coworkers who have this position were just given it....none ever applied or interviewed. There isn't even a susbstantial pay increase involved or anything.
I really need help figuring this out. If they don't want me to have the position, there is no need to even interview me. They could've just said I didn't fit or whatever. Why are they making me do this? I'm seriously considering withdrawing my name just to not be forced to play these games. Uggghhh.
the positives will not need work.
as to negatives. the supervisor assumes they know you. they will make gut generalizations. break it down point at a time, force specifics-- devise a corrective action plan on anything negative. demonstrate change. the ability to improve is respected.
Just go. I'm sure there is nothing new your manager is going to learn. In my experience these tend to turn in to informal discussions as opposed to a formal interview.
