I guess Oil work is in a recession again with cheap oil due to a depressed economy. Even National Oilwell Varco wouldn't hire me when they needed new work to be done... - there was a hiring freeze. And Dow Chemical has had layoffs too.
And I think the situation is bad everywhere.
You could learn Proengineer and be a CAD Designer for Oil rigs at Schlumberger and Hydril but they didn't hire me for that either.
