As usual, I try the old tactics, then the new tactics, then the old again, re-do my resumes again, tweaking the terminology, lowering my education, walking the sidewalks, looking at the Pennysaver, sending thank you cards (yeah, thanks for nuttin, lol) and so forth. I know some of you are the same !
Today I was looking at my handy list of top 200 employers in our 2 nearby So Cal Inland Empire counties. The combined populations of these counties is about 5 million.
Several looked like they could have possible openings I would be qualified for, as I have 3 fields to choose from and a BS degree. However, I am willing take any file clerk, cleaning, or kitchen job they have. I chose a giant hospital/medical system, a huge casino, school districts, state mental hospital, and movie kiosk company.
I "created an account" for several large employers, and "logged in to my account" for others I go to regularly. (grrrr, it gets old.)
Five of these top employers combined employ 21,000 people in all fields.
I searched all jobs for these organizations in our area.
The total openings were 51.
That includes specialized certificated teachers and nurses.
There are no openings for housekeepers and file clerks. (A cook ll needs specialized broiler experience and sushi experience. Etc.)
Do you folks have anything left to apply for in your areas?
I feel like I am being slowly smothered, and I am not that way.
I always bounce back and shine positivity and at work I am always complimented for productivity. I love being productive.
I do not like this lack of hope.
Reading this terrific forum gives me hope, and I thank you for this.
In Branson they are going begging for workers. You can walk in to any of 50 businesses and be hired on the spot. Housekeeping, hotel front desk, servers, there are lots of jobs here. Wages are low, but so is housing.

I'm in same general area - Coachella Valley. You are right. There is not much out there unless you are in medical field. The jobs I do see are usually in Orange County, which is 110 miles from me. I keep plugging away, but it's hard to stay positive.
Hope all goes well for you today.

Thank you for your kind replies. Still searching away.
My neighbor walked by today. He has been on disability for some years.
He remarked "I'm not getting enough on this disability, I may have to go out and pick up a small job, if I could just get 2000 dollars a month or so I will be happy."
All I could say was "You and millions of other people, my friend."

Hi fellow trudgers ! The partisan rhetoric shills are very disturbing lately, hope everyone can ignore them. Please ignore ridiculous posts, they are sent here on purpose, don't let them get to ya ! Why would anyone take a job designed to hurt others over the internet, instead of applying at McDonalds? I guess they are so lazy they want to get paid to blog and never go out there and work ! Maybe they have to get paid to shill because they wont do honest hard work? lol.
I have good news, on my way to the interview, I saw a new retirement community, gorgeous, and I ran in in my suit and applied there also ! Yay! Thanks for your inspiration.
I have finished submitting all my information, took in my transcripts today and spoke to my interviewer. Sure hope I can get this position in my field of special education, what a lucky find. I had not seen a posting like this is 3 years. They seem to like me OK. Does not start til August...
Boy, the stories are getting so sad, they are hard to read. My heart goes out to everyone who does not have the July rent or payment. We have to get people together, maybe meet at a coffee shop or something, to help each other, how many homeless can hit the street in this heat and tornadoes?
I think we have 2 months savings left, but I am contacting people who are new friends who will let us stay if we work, I encourage others to do so. People DO meet on the Internet, it is not all dangerous if you check it out.
I appreciate your input about moving, one of these contacts has a place in OK, and I am ready to change my life and move if necessary ! I am terrified of chiggers, I love to hike and walk in the fields, hear that is a no-no? Speaking of chiggers, I looked up Branson also, thanks ! Will consider.
Don't give up, we will survive! Love to all. Let me know if I can do anything.

The writing is on the wall, but you're not reading it.

It's time for you to forget "empolyment" and do something independently. Start offering your skills as a contractor or whatever, but stop trying to force the world to fit what you want and take advantage of what comes your way.

Well, got a 2nd interview for another job I applied for. I called them back to check on my status, seemed to help ! I'm pretty sure you folks are doing your callbacks but just a reminder! 9 bucks an hour, 12-hour shifts are 108 bucks.
On a sad note, my neighbors are losing their jobs, 3 are young men with families, 1 older woman moving in with kids, and we will soon have a 50% vacancy rate at the lowest-priced, safest, quietest most beautiful duplexes you ever saw in California. In-credible. When I moved here no resident had been here less than 5 years. Many stayed 10. I have been here 15.
