I'm 20 years old and can't find one at all. So unfortunately I'm getting unemployment and can't find any type of work. I'll try everything and there is nothing. I'm partially laid off from the company that I'm working for. Companies are getting strict on hiring people and picking people for that certain job. But I'm attending school right now to study to be a speech pathologist. Its tough but the most important thing is to not give up on job hunting and not lose faith at all.

So let's hear some stories....

No stories here yet, but I thought your age group was the first to be hired (because of cheaper wages, and age discrimination against older workers).

You have to have experience to be hired, so some people in their early 20's, but out of college don't always get jobs in favor of slightly older workers.

That experience mess gets on my nerves sometimes. I want cash handling experience (another skill), and can't get it yet because the danged places want me to already have the danged experience. How can I get it if they won't hire me?

I'd settle for working part-time in a video or other retail store (and keep my FT job) just for the danged cash handling. That would be another skill for me. But, no, they hire their friends and relatives. Yeah, family/friends first, but come on! How many you got?!?

It's late and I'm ranting.

I ran into the same situation with the cash handling. I wanted to get my foot in the door of a museum and they were hiring someone on a temporary basis for one of their exhibitions. Unfortunately, they wanted cash handling experience which I did not have. What made it worse was that the call came literally a day after I lost my job. I was so hoping to get that job!

If you have the time, perhaps you could volunteer at a fundraiser, like one of those runs for charity or even a bake sale at a church. I'm not really sure of other ways you could get such experience unfortunately.

I'm 22 and am unemployed because I quit my job in May to relocate to Kentucky. I'm in school for Management. I've been unemployed since May. Gone to three employment agencies without any luck. Had 20-30 interviews without an offer. Most of my work has been banking and the banks around here seem to only want women. I do have a second interview for a warehouse job this week. And am holding out hope for a teller job I interviewed for.

Oh, I can't get unemployment but thankfully I have family helping me.

No, young people are having a hard time as well. Sometimes young people are the last to get hired because of the lack of experience thing. It took my 19 year old nephew over a year to find a very low-paying job. He would actually make more money at McDonalds but couldn't get hired there.

I am 30 and can't get hired. This is because every time I get an interview, I am competing with 20-40 other people looking to obtain the same position. Yes, some places do interview that many people. No, I am not in manufacturing. I am in elementary education.

Well, I do start orientation for a job next week. It's a seasonal job that is farther than i'd like to travel for not that much $ but it's something that will buy me more time to look for something more solid. I'm still waiting to hear a decision for a teller job I interviewed for.

Oh, noooo. I thought there was a demand for elementary education, and would always be. (I'm assuming you're a teacher. ) Hope you'll find something soon.

Teaching is an oversaturated field.
