As someone who sits in on interviews and is able to yay or nay applicants, my advice to your relative is to come clean now. They may take pity on her ( I wouldn't, because if you lied on your resume, what else are you going to lie about?) or they just might dismiss her.

As for the HR comment, it's on her resume, they already know.

Agree with your advice to show the B.S. diploma.
If you're working toward a master's, say so: In process/In progress/Working toward.

I think we can all agree it was not right for her to put MBA in her resume. However I know her well and she qualifies for this position and needs the job. I'm just trying to maximize her chances of getting in at this point.

Thus would it be better to just show up first day and give HR the B.S. degree? If HR doesn't bother asking, then great. If they ask, just say it's in progress and don't emphasize or admit that it was a lie.

I'm just thinking if she calls them up now (prior to the start date), it'll just put a spot on the issue and possibly make it worse. There isn't any upside to this strategy other than that she won't have to face the possible embarrassment in person.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like you are hearing what you want to hear.

Well I had a look at her offer package, and asking for the diploma appears to be part of the standard procedure, not a case where they singled her out.

I recommend she say she didn't pay for the diploma when she graduated (not all schools give them out especially if you don't "walk" at graduation) and she has requested transcripts. Since this takes a bit of time to get they will probably let her slip. She should work on getting the missing credits resolved if she's that close...to avoid this in the future.
