That's why I asked how do you find a job when you have a job and could not get a good answer. After using the excuse of the dr and using a vacation day or PTO it will be hard to hide you are going on inteeviews

Another thing that I might consider pulling is to take either monday or friday off for the interview hopefully disguising it as a 3 day trip somewhere.. this will mostly end up being monday as people generally will take it easy on fridays.

Yes. I took two days off to travel for interviews, I kept my employer informed throughout the process, and two administrators gave me letters of recommendation. They wanted me to stay, and they held my job for me.

With the job change before that, the administration was not as friendly about it, but they still waited until I had an answer from the new employer before looking for someone else for my position. (They did keep pestering me, trying to pressure me into a commitment.)

Another job change: when I was in my early 20s I was still working at a restaurant when I began substitute teaching. Each morning I called the restaurant to tell them whether or not I was teaching that day, so they would know whether to expect me at 10:00 or at 3:00.

My face and nose are both fine, thanks.

People who have no interests outside of work amaze me. Here are a few that I've come up with in the 30 seconds since I read this:

There's an auction I want to go to.
I have an old friend/family member coming to town.
I have plans this weekend and need to get my errands done, or
I need to run some errands and businesses that aren't open on Saturday.
There's a get-together of (insert hobbyist here) people that I don't want to miss.
I'm reading for the blind.

Or, you can pick an event that's going on the same day that won't interfere with your interview and say your going to that (better go in case they ask questions).

Lot's of things, just use some creativity!

So it's perfectly fine to say "no" when they ask if they can contact your current employer?? Hm... I'd always thought that perhaps that could've 'signaled' to the hiring manager, "Maybe he's afraid I'll find out his boss thinks he's incompetent or had problems?" I mean, it's not like any of these apps actually bother to ASK (at least as I recall), "Why?" if you list, "No." I'm just afraid of screwing up all possible chances of getting an interview, and I am getting so impatient with my current job. And I'm sure my boss knows I hate my current job anyway. Why the f*ck would he care if I'm trying to get a new job elsewhere? What does he expect, me to just QUIT and screw myself financially before getting a guaranteed job elsewhere? After all, I've been there about a year now.

Wait... DO they ever call your current employer before the interview... or is it almost always afterwards? Because after is totally fine, obviously. I wonder if someone who's a former manager or HR person could tell me in response here?

I heard of seeing on a application can we contact your last employer but never asking a candidate can we contact your current employer? That just sounds stupid

I've never seen it broken down by current vs past, it just has an employment history section where they ask you to list all your jobs starting with the most recent, and for each job there is a box to check if it's okay to contact that employer.
