Earlier this year in March, I interviewed with a company that specializes in air-conditioning and also sells and constructs custom-made fireplaces for homes. I interviewed for the position as a graphic designer. Via e-mail, I was told that my portfolio website and design work was impressive by the hiring manager. I went in for an interview about a week later at the store. The store was very clean and professional and few customers were being helped. It was definitely a legitimate business. However, the manager I was supposed to be interviewing with was not available to interview with me on the set date. Instead, I interviewed with one of the other senior members of the staff that day. The interview went okay. I sent the company a follow-up email and they never responded. A few weeks later, the same email address which I had been speaking with the store manager was sending me a few spam messages advertising various pop-up ads. Today, I received a very informal email stating "sup get back to me i guarantee you will appreciate it later" from that same email address. No formality in this message at all. I emailed back saying "What is this in regards to?" It seemed really fishy seeing as this was definitely a professional established business.

Weird. Maybe all emails somehow automatically go onto their marketing subscription list. Is there an unsubscribe link anywhere in the email?

Could be that somebody hacked their account. It might have been wiser to call rather than reply via email.
