Executive Recruiting, Good Career? (work from home, salary, money, hired)

Any E.R./Headhunters out there? Would you recommend it as a good career path to follow? Could you tell me about the day to day operations, the hours, pay and path?

What would the first six months, one year and five years look like? How is the future outlook long term? Will there continue to be jobs available in this field?

What is the real deal with being a recruiter? The good, the bad and the ugly. I appreciate any insight you can offer. Thanks!

It will be a great career once the job market comes back to life. If you find the perfect candidate who gets hired, the fee can be as much as 30% of salary. You don't have to make that many placements a year to do well. Of course, each one is tough, it is not a gravy job by any means.

My brother-in-law was doing it for years until he got layed off. He went from big money to zero just like that. Lost his home and everything. He was able to do some work from home, so he wasn't required to be at the office every day. Expect to spend a lot of time on the phone, even when you are "off." I'd say you can make a good living, but the career is unstable. Just my observations.

There is very high turnover in recruitment. Recruiters come and go agencies and firms go bust and open up. That is why the Directory of Executive Recruiters is updated at least every 2 years.

It seems like way too much cold calling, someone told me they expect you to make 100/day to find new business.
