I got a letter today from the state dept of corrections that said I failed the written 600 question psychological exam.
I looked on the website--and called the state but have yet to hear back from them.
Can I appeal this?
Are they allowed to give that information to another dept within the state?
Typically the written exam is used to determine what your particular 'issues' are, which is then used in the oral exam to determine if there is real cause for concern. If you fail the oral exam you are usually allowed to obtain a second opinion. If this is not the case in your jurisdiction, you can usually wait one year and attempt again.
Most jurisdictions require that you disclose if you have been DQ'd elsewhere.
Let me start out by saying that I have absolutely NO experience whatsoever in taking employee psychological tests and sincerely hope that at my great age I never will have to. But that's really neither here nor there.
It must be frustrating to be cut because of the results of such an evaluation and I can understand that but I can't see that any "appeal" will result in a response period.
However, it might be a good idea to google "psychological testing" and go through what's likely to be a huge amount of information available to try and figure out why the responses you submitted led to your being summarily denied the opportunity to continue on through the hiring process.
In accordance with basic standards you've been deemed unacceptable for such a position but that doesn't mean that you're lacking in all areas! There are innumerable online sites you can go to which will evaluate you - free of charge - and suggest possible employment fields you might look into which suit your particular talents. Or you can research local career counselors. Many are no-cost or low-cost, many charge. All is not lost.

Pick yourself up. Good luck!
I think the point here is that the OP is disappointed that they won't be able to get into a particular field that they worked so hard to get into.
Yes, they're able to go into a different field to make money, but at the end of the day they're always going to be lingering on what if they actually got in.
In a sense, a different line of work one could be good at would end up being another dead-end job since that's not what they wanted in the first place.
I say find reapply and retake everything as often as possible while holding down employment in another field you're good at.
It's not like you're going to be legally barred from taking another LE exam.

Maybe you've read other posts which the OP has made in order to reach such a conclusion. Nothing at all wrong with that and in which case you may well be correct in your assumption but I was merely basing my response on what was written. It's pretty senseless, though, to take the test over and over again if the contributory factors remain the same and thus the results remain the same.
Well, from what I've read, the exam is never given on the same day as the Physical fitness exam. After 2 hours of running and jumping, we had a 10 min break and the test was given.
May or may not be a factor.
From what I've read on the internet, NOBODY has ever heard of being disqualified based ONLY on the results of a computer generated test.
It's normal practice for those that 'fail' the exam to be sent to a psychiatrist for further review.
I appreciate the answers given, but I'm going to try again to contact the state on Monday.
Sorry you did not pass. They won't share the score or the reason you did not make the cut. There is probably an amount of time that needs to pass, and you can try again.
You never know, this might be a path to a completely better job. It is hard to have that persoective when you are dissappointed.
