It is beyond ridiculous to make applicants fill out online forms with the EXACT same info as the resume. Just have them upload their resume and let it be. There is no sense in all of the account creating and form filling. I know no one HAS to create accounts, but that is not the point. The point is the simpler things are the better. Applicants have a life too and their time should not be wasted.

What? They need as many ways as possible to reject you and they may find it easier just to scan data fields for this information than to look at the resume. Seriously, I think many start with the application and don't look at the resume unless they have to. They have a lot of people to filter off and they are busy! How many did you do today? I did 5, most were not bad.

Poor you.

Why should I make it easier and faster for YOU to apply for a job I am offering? Frankly, submitted resumes are rarely read unless the person has been picked up by our screening process - AND - about 75% of the resumes received are from people who do not meet the qualifications for the job opening. People who do not read and do not follow the rules get dropped from the system immediately.

I severely dislike most online job application processes. They are needlessly cumbersome. What with scanning software and tech as far along as it is, simply submitting name, email, and phone number and uploading a resume should be enough. Scanner should do the rest. Keywords/buzzwords should set you apart. Employers that play stupid application games are those you would likely not want to work for to begin with.

This is the reason you need to tailor your resume/CV to each job. Look at the job ad and use the keywords they want on your resume/CV (assuming you do know they skills desired). Same for cover letter. Tailor them likewise -- to the specific job at hand. A resume/CV isn't designed to get you a job. It's designed to get you an interview. You sell yourself at the interview.

Stop asking for the EXACT same information that is found on a resume. I don't care what you say. Picked up by what screening process? A computer or a human being?

I didn't say I wanted it easier. I am just seeing and hearing a lot of complaining and frustration over these online applications and screening tools. Calm down don't spaz out just because someone spoke up about it.

Yea I don't think they read the resumes or cover letter for that matter but they look to see if you have attached a resume & cover letter so if you didn't, that can be a reason for them to skip your application because it can be considered incomplete even though they were not going to read the resume & cover letter to begin with.

I have heard for Nurses some companies only call those for a interview who have a attached resume, cover letter, transcripts, and references along with the company application form. These companies are trying to find as many ways as they can to not have to consider you then they wonder why they have a revolving door of applicants and unfilled positions.

This may or may not be relevant, but there was a company I applied to a few months ago. It was a pretty tech-savvy company. They had a button to upload the resume, so I did. The next page autopoulated from the resume and had numerous additional questions. On top of that, it auto-populated all the WRONG fields, so I had to go and correct almost every one. And did I mention all of this was on a single webpage?

It took me a half hour to fill it out, I swear it was like the essay part of the SAT! I hit the submit button at the end of the page and something went wrong, it came back with an error page!! So I hit the back button, hoping that it would have saved everything I wrote, but no, it again auto-populated the page from my resume, with all the errors. Cursing up a storm, I filled it out again, got almost to the end, another half hour into it, and my wrist must have brushed the touch pad on my laptop, which made it go forward, to the error screen from before!

I almost threw the damn laptop on the ground I was so furious. So I hit the back button and of course everything was erased. I couldn't give it a third go round, I...just...couldn't!

If your company is going to use an online application, at the very least write the code correctly and make it on multiple pages that save as you go!! For sanity's sake! Every time this happens, it makes me want to learn programming just to correct things like this!

Speak up about it all you want. It doesn't change the fact that a lot of redundant info is on the application because your resume is likely to never be seen. You asked why. I am just telling you how it works here.
