Unlikely that a company would offer travel reimbursement. Not because of the recession but because due to inflation, a 50k salary represents someone who is barely a mid-level employee in a role that is pretty common. Companies pay travel expenses for jobs that are hard to fill and that are very high ranking (CEO, CFO, etc). And oftentimes, it's a corporate headhunter or recruiter that pays the travel expenses, not the actual employer.

Some major companies like Accenture and Ernst & Young used to reimburse campus hires/ entry-level, under $60k. I don't know if they still do.

I know that included hotel reimbursement. For those roles, I'm not sure about if they recruited people from so far that those applicants flew in. For example, Accenture would fill people in Philly and recruited college grads from Penn State.

Salary doesn't have to be six figures, but I'm assuming that if the company is reimbursing significant expenses, they are very likely to make the candidate an offer, and aren't interviewing 10 candidates reimbursing them and offering only 1 candidate the job.

I had 2 interviews out of state. Both were fully reimbursed or paid directly by the interviewing company. (Non-executive positions)

If they don't make it clear, it doesn't hurt to ask. If they're not willing to put a candidate they may want out there, they have no skin in the game and you can easily be out $1000 which is hard to absorb when you don't have income.

If say they want you and won't help you get out there, it's probably indicative of what you're going to be dealing with if you're hired (and you probably won't be.)
