I had an interview this afternoon for a position of church secretary with the church I attend. As far as I know there are only 2 other people being interviewed. The church would like someone who is a member to fill this position (current secretary is retiring end of April). At this point I haven't been offered the job.
My dilemma: I will be leaving a job of 20 years because I want a fresh start. However, after digesting all the job responsibilities and really considering what I will lose, I don't feel this is right for me. It's only a part time position but I am only part time now at my current job. The pay rate would be lower, I'm almost sure of that.
The interview was only 4 hours ago, but I left there feeling uneasy and I still feel this way. I would like to call them and tell them how I feel because I don't want them to waste their time if I am being considered for the job.
Do I wait and see if I am offered the job or give them a heads up?

just sit tight and wait. just like most people apply for multiple jobs, most employers interview multiple people. If you were their first choice, they'll go with the 2nd choice if you decline the offer. just sit tight and don't do anything for now.

Just wait to see if it's offered and decline in a professional way saying you accepted another offer.
Well I don't want to lie. I AM going to tell them that after fully digesting everything the job entails, I don't feel it is a good fit for me....not enough to quit my job of 20 yrs. It's the truth and I don't want to make a big mistake.
I just feel like I would like to give them a heads up in case they are considering me. Waiting for a (possible) job offer will drive me crazy especially because I know I don't want the job.

well it's a part-time job you feel is not a good fit. In my opinion you don't have to say anything if they call you since lots of employers do it.

If I were you, I'd hold out as there is no guarantee that you would be offered the job.
