I've given up completely on contract recruiting agencies. Each recruiter has pretty much been as bad as the next. The recruiters are often so young they have little biz experience. I've never gotten a placement from trying them. I want a full time position and I am on my own in this hunt. Talking to recruiters just wastes my time and creates more frustration.

That's true.
They're so caught up in their little processes and procedures that they ignore the "human" part of human resources.

It is hard to remember the "human" when the people dealing with you are rude, disrespectful, expect you to be at their beck and call, and are disrespected when attempting to complete what you call "their little processes and procedures".

Then how about...
1. Being honest with them. Don't string them along.
2. Showing them a little compassion. After all, they're probably a meal away from starving to death while you're sitting in a cushy office.

I have never interviewed anyone and not given them a follow up. I have even been known to reply to the "thank you" emails I receive.
I make sure my email inbox is clear at the end of the day, this includes responding to emails that are sitting there. It may take me until 4:47 to reply to an email sent at 9am, but I will reply.
I make sure to return all calls I receive, the same day.
So, if you would stop being rude to me as I am "sitting in my cushy office" that would be nice.

I'm not saying YOU don't do the aforementioned things, but your colleagues that don't make it bad for the entire bunch.
As a result, the response you receive is a projection of the applicant's defense mechanism from past experiences with other recruiters.

That's a shame for you as I am guessing whether you intend to or not, this is also the projection you give to the recruiters who are in a position to help you in your career and not on the other side of an anonymous message board.

I also imagine the same "that's a shame for you" attitude you project on here is the same type of mindset you project when dealing with your applicants.
If you treat people nicely, they'll treat you nicely back. If you treat people in a mean way, they'll treat you in a mean way back.
I have no issue with you taking me "that's a shame for you" to heart, as I meant it. It is a shame for you if you are making things more difficult for yourself by projecting that attitude.
So, if I come across that way to an applicant who is doing the same, I have no issue with it, as it is honest.

What I say I mean too. No one likes passive-aggressive people.
For example, after finding out an applicant applied twice for a position (unknowingly), you just passively ruined his chance of getting hired because your feelings were hurt, heaven forbid that might have been his only chance to feed his family and kids.
So at least we're both being honest with each other.
