If ever asked for a password, refuse to give it to them. Politely remind them that it's against Facebook's terms of service for requesting a password, and giving them away. Should they not believe you, pull up Facebook's terms of service and show them.
Exactomondo. Then, ask them: "You wouldn't want me, as your employee, violating the TOS of your website--now, would you?"

(Silence)

Turn about is fair play.

Also, in Maryland, it is no longer legal for prospective employers to ask for passwords.

"Actually, what I'm going to do instead is take your resume and call you if I'm interested. Good luck on your job search!!!"

Can Employers Ask for Your Facebook Password? Not in Maryland.
They should make that a law for the other 49 states, good for Maryland!

Good news indeed. here in NY the same law is being proposed. See what happens.

Working and having your privacy handed over to someone are not the same. If we let this stand, Something else will come along in regards to giving up privacy.

Though this whole thing is not many employers right now. The idea is too keep it from being so.

The last company I worked for began asking for FB account info for new applicants. We had something like 12 of 15 applicants walk out during the interview before the policy was revoked.

I personally don't care one way or the other as I don't have FB or twitter accounts...

Very Good DentalFloss, I completely agree. Any and all websites all people register to or just look in is not anyone's business. I don't even consider law enforcement should have that access, authority or right to look into unless they are going to court against the person they are searching/snooping into their business that is no one's business without written permission.

Everyone should refuse to allow this to happen regardless of if they have Facebook, blogs, or any site they register to. I people have the attitude of well I don't go into that or have this or that then they better be prepared to give up their passwords and all sites they join, visit to their employer right along with everyone they work with because once the employer knows where their employees visit, what they say, etc etc. so will everyone else. Employers often have their favorites be it employees under them or other employers they share and gossip to about their employees.

Sue the employer if they demand your password. Be sure to sneak a tape recorder in your pocket. Judges and lawyers need evidence so the tape recorder provides proof.
