Hey, I've seen applicants that probably should be ignored. But what I do not understand is the whole "let me call you back" for professional type jobs. Or "we will let you know" after the interview, etc.

I'm not one of those who thinks everyone deserves a call back, or every situation merits a followup. But in my own personal opinion, I'm referring to the situations where you are truly leaving the person bewildered at not getting a response.

So what do you think of this article?

I agree. If we don't hire someone we interview we send them a letter advising them that they are no longer in the process. We don't leave anyone wondering if they are ever going to hear back from us.

It's natural. Easier to ignore than break bad news. But I agree, it is inconsiderate and all too common.

well at least I know now that the feds use RESUMIX to scan keywords from a candidats resume

If any employer cannot send some type of response after an in person interview to let a candidate know something, then that is just inconsiderate and lazy.

Narcissistic and Sadistic.

No other reason.

Hell, even if you use the excuse that don't have the time to individually call every person and present the outcome to them, all it takes is a few minutes to create an automatic/generic "yes" or "no" email blast.

Same here.

And if a candidate is still a contender but it's going to take more than a week or so to make a decision, I let them know that as well.

Ohhh boy, my husband went through the ringer with this!
I've been with him for 20 yrs and he's never been without a job. He's an electrician. Made his way up the ranks to Project Manager on different jobs.
Two years ago, the company he worked for went under and laid everyone off. Thinking he wouldn't go long without a job, he didn't worry. Until 2 months later, and he hadn't received one call from any of the jobs he applied for.
For 2 years, he applied for any and every job he could. Every once in a blue moon, he would get a call from a company that would show interest, then never call him back! I couldn't believe the rudeness of the hiring people, the way they play with people's feelings.

The last one called him in February, asked if he could fly out at a moments notice for an interview, he said sure! She said they would be needing someone within the next 30 days. Well, a month went by and he didn't hear anything.
Then he received a call for a job interview with another company so we made a week trip out of it and drove back to California with the kids.
While we were back in the state, he decided to call that company back to tell them he was back in the state and could come by for an interview if they wanted. Well, after three messages left on this ladies voicemail, not one was returned.
Luckily, he was was offered a job from the other company and took it.

One month later, the company that never called him back, called out of the blue! Asked if he would be available for a job in July! He told them he had already taken another job offer.

What a weird way to handle applicants. I was mad he didn't remind her that he called her 3 times a month earlier and she never returned his calls.

A large number of companies are not bothering to even call/write/email/smoke signal candidates after an in person interview. I've had that happen several times. It is just a horrible reflection on the company and they way they treat people.

Same here for both myself and my boyfriend. I left one interview last year so excited, I thought it went fantastic...never heard from them again. I know how easy it is to send a disposition letter through various ATS, two clicks of a mouse. And even small companies have email and can send a quick thanks but no thanks. Frustrating and definitely reflects poorly on the employer.
