i think it's ridiculous that they offered you less money because you made less money at your previous job - your value to your previous employer should have no bearing on your value to a new employer.

however, i'm glad that you were honest and that things worked out for you.

Just wanted to give you all a brief update again.

I'm 6months in with my new company and everything is going great. I relocated from Los Angeles to San Francisco, moved in with my soon to be wife and enjoying life in NorCal.
Glad to hear it all worked out! +5!

Yep this whole business about demanding salary history so they can lowball is like walking into a retail store and demanding to know what the wholesale price is for an item is. It won't fly.

HR at a company asked me for my current salary, and I told them I would disclose it if they disclosed that salary of the person I would be replacing.

Got a "touche" from her, and that was the end of that request.

What was the OP's job? I hate it when employers ask for current salary.

Yes I'm with the company that I was interview with. It was a big jump for me as I was going from operations into a 100% sales based position. My salary was based on entry level account manager but with my operations background it was negotiated.

It's scenarios like this that I'm glad I'm so good at using Photoshop. I would have damn sure faked my pay stub and then probably brag about it on facebook after it worked.
