I'm looking for a new job and I'm worried that my credit will hurt me. Here is what I have: $120,000 home mortgage, $10,000 credit card debt and a car I paid off. I have never been late on a bill, had anything in collections, or gone bankrupt. I have a good credit score but will my credit card debt likely prevent me from getting a new job?
I would say you'll be fine unless you apply for a job that involves handing cash. Having a high amount of debt could make the bank less likely to offer you a job.

I'm looking for positions in IT, so no cash handling. I've interviewed for a few positions and I thought the interviews went well but then I never hear back. I started to worry that maybe my credit report is the problem.
If they are IT positions, and you are not hearing back; well that is the norm.
You are probably one of the thousands of applicants for each and every IT position that pops up on the job boards. The reality is, once they are posted to the job boards for the public to see, the company already has in mind who they plan on hiring.
Yes. Who knows if they actually end up doing the credit check but it's definitely nerve racking.
Check your credit report. The credit checks will show up.
