Since I lost my job almost a year ago I have gone over the the library and read many of the books on how to write a resume and interview more effectively for a job. There are some good books and lots of interesting advice. I think the books have been helpful in improving my resume but only somewhat helpful on my interview skills.
Because the job market is so terrible I have not had much of a chance to interview at many employers so I am out of practice. I tried to do practice interviews with friends and relatives but I broke out into giggles with them because of our personal relationship, I just could not stay in character and my friends did not really know how to interview me for a Office Manager job like a real professional.
So if you don't get many interviews how do you get up to speed so you are a confident accomplished employment interviewer? Read more books at the library on the subject? Advice please.
It would be helpful to practice. Does your state unemployment commission provide any coaching for interviewing? Can you possibly play act this yourself......ask yourself the question as interviewer and then reverse the role and answer? The downside to this is the inability to get feedback if you are going solo.
Also, perhaps keep at it. Eventually, if you have a acting partner, you will get over your giggles if you keep trying. Can you also join a job hunting club so maybe you can find a partner to each take turns.
