I might get 2 job offers but they might be 6-7 days apart.

Company A is my 2nd choice job and Company B is my first choice job. I would only take the job with Company A if Company B's job fell through

If I get an offer from Company A on a Monday or Tuesday, is it ok if I let them know I am very excited at the opportunity and I would like some time to think it over. Then let them know that I will get an answer to them the first part of the next week.(by Monday or Tuesday of the following week). This is approx 7 days...it might be too long.

I expect to have an offer from Company B a few days later and all paperwork signed with Company B by Monday of the next week. Company B's job will not be certain until all paperwork is signed and it can fall through any time until this. I would not want to turn the other job down until paperwork is signed.

(another option is to accept the offer from Company A, and extend the start date 2 weeks. Then contact them and tell them I changed my mind and won't be starting with them if everything works out with Company B's job. I really, really do not want to do this as I dont want to burn my bridges with Company A. )

Is either of these "offers" in writing or official in any way?
Do you have a name to call (at either company) and ask them about their decision process?

If the companies and HR staff haven't provided an avenue of communication that c/would avoid
this sort of thing happening then they deserve to have it happen to them.

Is company B a career? Somewhere you wouldn't want to leave for a long time?

I was in a similar position when I got out of college. Had two interviews a week apart. Got the job with company A while company B made me do a 2nd interview. Worked 2 weeks with company A when company B told me I got the job but I need to go thru a background check. This check took 3-4 weeks. I worked with company A for 5 weeks and was starting to hate it. I left without a proper notice which I didn't like but I didn't have a choice. In fact, I told company A I quit as I driving to company B for my first day.

Do what's best for you.
