I had an interview a little over two weeks ago. During the interview the hiring manager said that he would like to have an offer sent to someone in two weeks or so. I feel like the interview went very well. After two weeks of no response, I emailed him to ask for an update on the hiring process. The response I got is very confusing and I don't know how to take it. The email said, "we have identified a candidate for the position." That's it. It didn't say that I was no longer being considered but it didn't say that I'm not that candidate either. I know the position hasn't been filled so I'm wondering what it means. I'm just really confused. What do you think this means?

Not 100% sure. But I think if you were the candidate, you would have likely been told.

I hate to break it to you, but they are telling you in vague terms that you weren't the candidate that was chosen for the job, they went with somebody else they wanted.

I agree with everyone else. It means you didn't get the position. If you were the identified candidate, you would have been notified.

it means someone else was chosen but they did not start work yet.

Keep in mind sometimes things fall through before someone starts. Then they go with choice #2.

Yeah, unfortunately, you didn't get the position.

On the bright side, they bothered to send you an email vs. ignoring you, leaving the job up on the website, and leaving you wondering "what happened?!"

Anyway, good luck in your job hunt!

My take is that you are not the person they are initially offering the position to. However, if that person doesn't take it, or doesn't work out, they have a back up plan which may/may not include other candidates.

In any case, keep looking. And good luck!!

Thanks everyone.

@Colts I don't think so because the job posting is still on the website.
